The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Limited Edition

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was released in 2011 for Wii. Nintendo games don’t often get limited editions, but Zelda is kind of an exception, and for this game they created something very nice. For a limited time a special bundle was offered that included the game, a Zelda themed gold colored Wii remote with built in ‘Plus’ functionality, and a soundtrack cd. The one described here is the PAL version, which is a bit different from the US version – the gold on that one is much shinier. The PAL version has more of a matte look.

The whole package comes in a compact cardboard box.

From left to right: the manual, which is very leafy because it contains many different languages, the soundtrack cd and an information booklet about the music.

The soundtrack cd, which contains several tracks from the Legend of Zelda: 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert.

The small leaflet containing information about the music.

This is the main extra: the gold special edition remote with Royal Crest artwork on it.

This is a really nice limited edition for several reasons. First of all, the controller, apart from being a real collector’s item, is something you can actually use, instead of for example a statue you can only display. Secondly, it really was quite limited in number of copies made available, which is not something you can say for all limited editions. Also, it was a pretty good deal because not only did you get the game and a brand new controller, but the bundle was a lot cheaper than if you had to buy these things separately. It was a good deal for people who didn’t own a Wii Motion Plus accessory yet, as it was built into this controller (this functionality was needed for the game).

Because it was quite limited in supply and high in demand, prices for this limited edition rose quickly, and are still quite high in general. Not surprising, as this is a great collector’s edition. Not only did it come with some very cool and useful extras, but it was also a great deal in terms of value for your money. Of course, what is also a factor here is that this is a Zelda game, and those are always wanted, and generally don’t really lose their value.
