Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2013
2012 may have been a weak year for gaming in some regards, the same can not be said for 2013. There are already a lot of big games to look forward to, some of them coming out as early as next month. Here are our 10 most anticipated games of this year:
Since this game likely won’t come out this year, we haven’t included it in the top 10 list. But we still wanted to mention it, seeing this is our most anticipated game right now.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
This game would have been number one on the list if it would have been confirmed for a 2013 release date. A new Metal Gear game by Hideo Kojima, what more needs to be said? The graphics look very impressive, and the story is sure to be captivating once again.
All right, now on to the top 10 for this year!
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Nintendo 3DS
Our most played handheld game of all time gets a new installment on the 3DS, and this time you’re the mayor of the village. This new version is shattering sales records in Japan, and – if the previous numbers are any indication – will do very well in the west as well. A game that you’ll be able to play for years to come.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
PLAYSTATION 3, XBOX 360
This game had a pretty rough development process. It was being made by Kojima Productions without the help of the man himself, almost cancelled because it didn’t work, and then moved to hack & slash king Platinum Games, who basically started anew. The result looks like it will be over the top and very entertaining.
Pikmin 3
Wii U
After nine years of waiting, we finally get a new Pikmin game. The Wii U Gamepad and this franchise seems like the perfect match, and the miniature nature worlds look great in HD and with the small depth of field. Plus, Miyamoto is behind this game. Need we say more?
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
PLAYSTATION 3
The charm of Studio Ghibli combined with the the RPG making knowledge of Level 5. This game looks like it’s going to be an absorbing tale with a very appealing visual style. Traditional RPGs haven’t been that common this gen, so it’s good to see a fresh new game in that genre.
The Last of Us
PLAYSTATION 3
Naughty Dog’s new ambitious project is big on story and characters. The atmosphere and survival gameplay look intense, as well as the incredible AI. The mature looking story, interesting setting, breathtaking visuals, and just the sheer amount of polish and perfection Naughty Dog is known for make sure this game appears in the wish lists of many gamers.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
Nintendo 3DS
It’s been over a decade, but we are finally getting a new Luigi’s Mansion game. This time he’s going portable, and he will be visiting several mansions. The original is seen by many as a hidden gem, and one of the most original games in the Mario series. If Nintendo goes the extra mile to make sure this game will be even better, this is to be a sure hit.
Bayonetta 2
Wii U
The first one was one of the best games in its genre. It was completely over the top and insane, and had a deep fighting system and a pretty lengthy singleplayer. It’s been several years since the original, so it should be interesting to see what they have done with the series. And it being a Wii U exclusive also makes us curious about Wii U Gamepad integration.
BioShock Infinite
PLAYSTATION 3, XBOX 360, PC
Now taking place in the air instead of under the sea, this game looks like it will once again deliver in terms of unique gameplay, atmosphere and dystopian world. The game has seen several delays, which hopefully leads to a polished end result.
God of War Ascension
PLAYSTATION 3
It doesn’t look like it will reinvent the wheel, but the combat looks enjoyable as always. Fighting mythical monsters in an Ancient Greece setting is always welcome. This title explores the origins of Kratos’ anger, which should be interesting as well.
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Nintendo 3DS
I’ve never played a Fire Emblem game before, but despite this fact – or maybe also because of it – we’re curious about the incoming 3DS installment. Fire Emblem games are generally well received, so this is a good opportunity to try out the series.
Honorable mentions: Beyond: Two Souls, DmC, Dead Space 3, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, Tomb Raider, Gears of War Judgement, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Pokemon X / Y
