Top 5 most anticipated games of 2017

Gamers have a lot to look forward to in 2017. Some much anticipated games and delayed titles will finally become available, and there are good looking games in every genre. With Nintendo’s Switch reveal just behind us, now is a good time to look at some of the most promising games of the coming year.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This marks the third time Breath of the Wild appears on our most anticipated next year games list, and hopefully the last. After many years of development the next new console Zelda is finally coming out, and it looks promising. Nintendo have gone back to some of the core ideas behind the franchise, comparing it to the first game in the series. This game really seems to be focusing on exploration, and with its gorgeous world, that will surely be a treat. It will also be one of the Switch launch game, providing a great way to introduce Nintendo’s newest console.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Ever since its unveiling Horizon Zero Dawn, the new game by Guerrilla Games, has continuously impressed. The game takes place in a world after the fall of civilization, where humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. Large robotic beasts roam the lands, and the player, taking on the role of Aloy, gets to hunt these creatures while journeying through the world and discovering what exactly happened to the civilization that came before. Horizon promises to offer interesting gameplay, beautiful visuals, a rich and lush world and a set of action RPG elements to keep the player engaged.

Super Mario Odyssey

Mario returns to a sandbox type game for the first time since Super Mario Sunshine. In this new installment Mario will travel beyond the Mushroom Kingdom to several different worlds, including one that looks a lot like our own. A new gameplay mechanic comes in the form of Mario’s cap, which he’ll able to use in new ways to aid him on his adventures. A new Mario game is always a good reason to get excited, and Super Mario Odyssey is no different.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

When Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch was released on PS3 it instantly became a fan favorite. The charming style of Studio Ghibli mixed with the RPG gameplay from veteran studio Level 5 proved to be a winning formula. The game featured a beautiful world with lots to do and creatures to collect, a touching story and a wonderful soundtrack. The sequel that was announced for PS4 seems to bring all of these elements back, while at the same time introducing many new features.

Yakuza 0

This new installment in the stylish and completely over the top Japanese crime simulator takes us back to the roots of protagonist Kazuma Kiryu’s career, before he became ‘The Dragon of Dojima‘. While the series is massively popular in Japan, it’s rather niche in the west so seeing this game be published here is a great thing. The Yakuza series are always unbelievably packed with not only a dramatic story and crazy brawler gameplay, but also tons of side activities and mini games. This time you also get to play as supporting character Goro Majima. Seeing as this is a prequel (hence the zero in the title) it’s great for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
