Undertale is an RPG that was released in 2015 for PC and later, in 2017, for PS4 and PS Vita. This was announced during Sony’s E3 2017 pre-show, at which the company also revealed a retail release published by Fangamer. Aside from a regular physical release, a special collector’s edition was available as well for a price of 64.00 USD.

So what do you get for this relatively hefty price tag? Well, quite a bit, actually.

Everything is bundled in a ‘sturdy matchbox-style collector’s box’, and it looks quite nice. In the middle is a little window through which you can see the golden locket (more on that later), and on the bottom is a nice glossy relief of New Home, one of the locations in the game.

Of course, this edition comes with a physical copy of the game (in this case the PlayStation Vita version). This case comes with a reversible cover as well, which simply says ‘Also Undertale’ on the front. Pretty clever.

In the game case you’ll also find a nice, sturdy 24-page storybooklet filled with beautiful illustrations by Tuyoki “Temmie” Chang.

The collector’s edition also includes the complete Undertale soundtrack. The 100+ songs are divided over two CDs and come in a Blu-Ray box with a reversible cover. Also included is a booklet with sheet music of six of the songs, complemented with annotations by Toby Fox, the game’s creator.

The main attraction of this edition is the heart shaped golden locket, which can be opened to reveal a working music box. It can be winded up using the little key on the back. And yes, this is actually a 14k gold-plated brass locket, and it feels impressively heavy.

In conclusion, this is a very nice collector’s edition. The materials are of good quality and there is a good selection of bonus items. It is quite expensive, even more so if you live outside of the US, but then again, how many collector’s editions include actual gold?
