Top 5 Most Anticipated Games of 2019

2018 was a great year for gaming, but if all of the games on this list are indeed releasing this year, it looks like 2019 could be even better, with a combination of both highly anticipated sequels and intriguing new IPs. Of course, it has to be noted that none of the release dates for these games are set in stone – that is, if they even have a release date yet -, but this list includes both titles confirmed for 2019 as well as those that are likely or expected to release this year. With that said, here is our top 5 most anticipated games of 2019.

The Last of Us Part II

Does this game even need an introduction? The sequel to one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed games of all time, The Last of Us Part II has some large shoes to fill, but director Neil Druckmann assured fans that they wouldn’t have done it if they didn’t feel they had the right idea. Taking place a few years after the first game, players take on the role of a now 19-year old Ellie, in a story that will revolve around the theme of revenge and hate. We haven’t seen a whole lof of the game, but what we have seen looks very impressive, both audio-visually and from a gameplay perspective, which seems to be very fluid and dynamic. It will be very interesting to find out how one of the most revered stories in gaming will continue.

Death Stranding

The first all new game by Hideo Kojima, after leaving Konami and the Metal Gear franchise behind to open up his own studio that focuses on high quality, large scale games. With the backing of Sony and the help of Guerrilla Games, it looks like Kojima is going all out with this PlayStation 4 exclusive. The game features big name actors, including Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen, a wonderfully weird world and a haunting soundtrack by Ludvig Forssell (who worked with Kojima before on MGSV: The Phantom Pain). But for the most part, the title is still shrouded in mystery, and that’s what makes it so interesting. We really don’t know what we can expect, but what we do know, is that we want to play it.

Devil May Cry V

It took more than a decade, but finally, after a Ninja Theory-developed reboot that received mixed reception, Devil May Cry V picks up where DMC4 left off. It brings back main stars Dante and Nero, and also introduces a new playable character called V. Running on Capcom’s RE Engine, the game looks fantastic and its stylish battles and over the top cutscenes are going to be a treat for long time fans of the franchise. After a hiatus of ten long years, it’s finally time to bring back some Smoking’ Sexy Style to demon hunting.

Ghost of Tsushima

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, the Washington based studio responsible for successful series like Sly Cooper and Infamous, Ghost of Tsushima is a brand new game set on the Japanese island of Tsushima during the first Mongol invasion. A lot of attention has been placed on authenticity, providing the player with a realistic combat system (the result of working with actual Kenjutsu masters), optional Japanese voice overs, and even going as far as bringing several horses to the studio to accurately capture their movements. The developers want the game to feel like stepping into a time machine, to be an accurate representation of this historical period, and it certainly seems they are headed in the right direction.

Animal Crossing

Ah, Animal Crossing. These games may look like friendly, but they will demand years of your life, and an iron-cast dedication to the game’s real time schedule. With plenty of stuff to do (catch fish, collect rare furniture, participate in yearly events) and millions of Bells to earn, the player is essentially never done in the world of Animal Crossing. Now, everyone is waiting in anticipation of the first new main game since 2013, and it will release on the Switch later this year. What new features will this installment bring? How will this new game look? And how many millions will we have to put into our bank account this time around for that exclusive item?

Of course, these are just five of the many great games set for release this year, including titles like Bayonetta 3, Days Gone, Resident Evil 2 remake, Judgment, Control and many more. In any case, it looks like 2019 is going to be an amazing year!
