Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a Metroidvania game by legendary Castlevania creator Koji Igarashi. After leaving Konami in 2014, he launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new game in the vein of what he’s known for. The crowdfunding was a huge success, acquiring more than 5,5 million dollars, and the project expanded accordingly with various stretch goals. After some delays, the game was released in 2019, though unfortunately several versions had to be cancelled, like the PlayStation Vita and Wii U version. Ultimately, the game released in June of 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Switch, to positive critical reception, although the Switch version left something to be desired.

As this is a Kickstarted project, there were many different versions using a tier system, with stacking rewards. The edition in this article is the physical version for PlayStation 4, called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Special Backer Edition. It’s the most basic version that has a physical release, but it still comes in a nice slipcase exclusive to those who backed the Kickstarter project.

The paper slipcase features a reflective artwork of protagonist Miriam in a dynamic pose.

On the back is an image of a stained glass panel (this is actually the effect of the Crystal Curse in the game, which makes a mark on the body resembling such a panel). At the bottom is a text saying ‘Bloodstained Campaign Backer’.

Then there’s a physical version of the game in its regular case.

That’s basically all there’s to it. This Backer Edition also comes with some digital extras: an extra boss (Igarashi himself) and the sword-whip, in a DLC bundle which normally costs $10.
