Assassin’s Creed Limited Edition

Assassin’s Creed was released in 2007 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The European limited edition contained a 30 cm tall Altaïr statue.

             

The Altaïr statue comes in a separate box with windows to the front and at the sides. It may be quite big, but it’s not really a fantastic looking figure, it looks quite plasticky. To be honest, I would prefer a smaller statue that is actually very well made over a large one like this.

Another thing that is disappointing about this edition is that the box art of the game case actually looks worse than the regular one, for one simple reason: it has an ugly, large yellow bar spreading across it that ensures us this box is ‘not for resale’. It would be nice if the case that comes with an expensive limited edition is different from the regular one, but this is just the same case, only messed up. Why couldn’t they have printed that text on the back, at least, if they absolutely have to have it on there. Now it just looks like a cheap version of the normal case, which it wasn’t. It was expensive.

This is kind of a weird limited edition in that it, despite its enormous size, only contains one single extra: the statue. Presentation-wise it’s underwhelming. The front of the limited edition is pretty much the same as the cover of the standard box, which is a bit of a letdown. The main selling point, the large figure, is not necessarily bad, but you would expect more for its price (which was about 90 euros).

Despite my complains though, I’m still glad I have it in my collection. It can be pretty hard to find nowadays, at least for a good price. I think it’s actually pretty rare, not too much of them were made, though I have no idea what the actual numbers are.
