Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector’s Edition

Mass Effect 3 released in 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and later for Wii U as Mass Effect 3: Special Edition. Aside from the regular edition, a collector’s edition was made available as well, called the ‘N7 Collector’s Edition’.

Much like the collector’s editions of the previous two games in the series, this one comes in a paper sleeve slightly bigger than a regular game case. On the front of the box is the embossed N7 logo in shiny, metallic colors. A picture of the earth is overlaid on top. A nice minimalistic look.

Inside is another paper box. On the back and wrapping around the sides is a nice piece of art. This box holds the game and the extra goodies.

First the game itself. Instead of a regular case it comes in a steel book with an artwork on each side (male and female Shepard), and a view of planet Earth on the inside.

Several redeem codes for downloadable content is included as well, giving players access to extra weapons, a bonus mission and character, a N7 hoodie for Shepard, the digital soundtrack, Mechdog Companion for onboard the Normandy, alternate outfits for squad mates, and a Normandy accessory for your Xbox Live Avatar.

Also included is a so called ‘4×6 litho’. Now this thing is downright disappointing and underwhelming. All it really is is a a piece of paper the size of a postcard with an artwork of the Normandy on it. The border filled with logos and copyright warnings doesn’t really help its presentation either.

The art book is a lot better. Though it has the usual size for these art books (quite small) it does have a hardcover and 70 pages filled with artwork.

Then there is a ‘Limited Edition Dark Horse Games Comic’. It’s only the first part though, so it’s more like a promotional thing.

Lastly, a patch with the N7-logo on it. Despite the box calling it an ‘eye patch’, I’m pretty sure that’s not what it’s meant to be. It looks like it’s supposed to be stitched to a jacket or a bag. It does look pretty decent quality-wise.

All in all, not a bad collector’s edition at all. In terms of content there isn’t a lot of unique and original stuff in there, but what is included is nicely made (the only real disappointment being the litho), and the overall presentation of the collector’s edition is well done.
