Metroid Samus Returns Legacy Edition
Metroid Samus Returns Legacy Edition
Platform: 3DS
Year: 2017
Region: PAL
Metroid: Samus Returns is a 3DS remake of the Game Boy title Metroid II: Return of Samus from the early nineties. The remake launched in September of 2017 and came in two different versions: a regular edition and a limited edition called the Metroid: Samus Returns Legacy Edition (only available in Europe, whereas the US got a different Special Edition).
The Legacy Edition comes in the same kind of paper box as many other European collector’s editions published by Nintendo (including the ever annoying hang tab), though this one is a little larger than usual.
The first thing you see when opening the package is a small black box embellished with Samus Aran’s logo in shiny silver.
Inside is a nice looking golden badge of the same logo that you can pin on your clothes of you so desire.
Then there’s the game itself, coming in its own 3DS case.
A steelbook is also included, resembling the original Game Boy cartridge (just a lot bigger). Very cool!
Furthermore, a plastick bag with a key ring inside of the famous Morph Ball Samus can transform to in order to get through small spaces. This one is still in its packaging.
Next, a soundtrack CD titled Samus Archives. On it are tracks from the entire series, from Metroid Other M to the Prime trilogy, from Fusion to Super Metroid, 25 in total.
Then, a soft cover artbook. What’s nice is that it has been divided into two. One half contains artwork from the remake, the other from the original game. The new logo is printed on one cover, the old one on the other. It features artworks showing Samus, her gunship, enemies and environments, among other stuff.
Lastly, a download code that gives you access to the original Game Boy game in Nintendo’s eShop.
In conclusion, this is a very neat collector’s edition with a respectable selection of goodies. Though not especially cheap (RSP was 79.99 but several stores were selling it for more than that), limited supply exceeding demand once again results in high prices on reselling websites, since Nintendo, as usual, did not ship enough copies. Still, a really nice little package for Metroid fans, especially for those with fond memories of the original Game Boy game.
