Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2016

From the looks of it, 2016 is going to be a killer year for games. With sequels in highly regarded series such as Uncharted, Zelda and Mass Effect, as well as -fingers crossed- the long anticipated and newly revealed The Last Guardian, it looks like it will be an interesting gaming year to say the least. Here are the 10 games we’re looking forward to the most.

Number-1

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted-4-TGA-2015

As with any game made by the masters as Naughty Dog, expectations are sky high for what will likely be the final fame in the series. Uncharted never fails to amaze in offering the player globetrotting adventure, astonishing setpieces and a great story with a likable cast. What we have seen already looks amazing, with exotic locations, returning characters and graphics that are out of this world.

Number-2

The Legend of Zelda

Most-Anticipated-2016-Zelda-Wii-U

We have seen little of the new Legend of Zelda title in development for Wii U, and we don’t even have a subtitle yet. But what we have seen looks amazing: a bright, vivid world full of atmosphere. Of course, a new Zelda title is always something to look forward to, and the amount of mystery that hangs around this title only increases this.

Number-3

Quantum Break

Quantum-Break-2016

One of the Xbox One’s most promising exclusives, Quantum Break is the new game from Remedy, the studio that brought us great titles like Max Payne and Alan Wake. Quantum Break will be a third person shooter with time bending mechanics, and will also interweave a live action tv show. You will also be able to make certain choices throughout the game that will influence the outcome of the story. Certainly a game to keep your eyes on!

Number-4

The Last Guardian

The-Last-Guardian-2016

Will this be the year we finally get to play this long awaited title by the studio that brought us works of art like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. After being announced as a PlayStation 3 game, and followed by a long and worrisome silence, the game made a triumphant return for PlayStation 4 during Sony’s previous E3 press conference. Let’s hope it will be worth the wait, as it still looks like it will be a beautiful and emotional tale about a boy and a magical creature, brought to life with the power of the PS4 and, more importantly, the developers’ creative prowess.

5

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon-Zero-Dawn

Guerrilla Games goes open world with this ambitious new action RPG, taking place in a beautiful but deadly, primitive world following the downfall of modern civilization. It will be interesting to see what the studio can do with this new IP and new genre, but from the gameplay demonstrations it certainly looks promising. Beautiful graphics and an interesting world with strategic fights and RPG elements… this could be something special.

Number-6

Final Fantasy XV

Final-Fantasy-XV-2016

A game that has been over a decade in the making, first shown off as an early PlayStation 3 game only to be moved to the next generation of consoles under a new title. It lets players explore the huge world at their own leisure and take on creatures, or simply go fishing for a bit. One of the most anticipated games for years, let’s hope it will live up to expectations.

Number-7

Gears of War 4

Gears-of-War-4

The Gears of War series was for many people one of the highlights of the Xbox 360, offering smooth gameplay, beautiful graphics, great co-op and multiplayer and over-the-top violence. Now, the series has been handed over to a new team, and will introduce a new set of protagonists. The E3 demo looked dark and atmospheric, and made Gears fans hungry for more. Hopefully it will live up to the legacy.

Number-8

Bravely Second: End Layer

Bravely-Second-End-Layer

The sequel to one of the best RPGs on the 3DS, which provided a twist on the classic turn based system with its ‘Brave and Default’ system, something which feels logical and natural right away. It’s no wonder RPG fans have been looking forward to this sequel ever since the original game, and this year the time is there.

Number-9

Fire Emblem Fates

Fire-Emblem-Fates

Another contender for top RPG on the 3DS was Fire Emblem Awakening, a new entry on the classic Nintendo series that did everything right. The sequel, Fire Emblem Fates, will release as a two part game, but can also be bought as a bundle in a  special collector’s edition, making for an appealing proposition.

Number-10

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mass-Effect-Andromeda

Mass Effect was one of the most popular new franchises of the last generation. An action RPG set in space, known for its rich worlds full of remarkable lifeforms, fun gameplay and interesting stories, there are plenty of reasons to look out for the sequel.
