Top 10 Games of 2015
Although a few of the most anticipated games were pushed to next year, 2015 was still a good year for videogames. Big games were released all throughout the year, which meant there was consistently something worthwhile to play. Here are our 10 favorite games of the year, along with some of their most memorable moments.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Riding your horse through the Afghan desert while listening to a cassette tape of ‘Kids in America’, making a short stop to connect a tranquilized sheep to your fulton balloon that will populate the zoo platform at your custom colored Mother Base out in the ocean.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
On your way from village to village, traveling through orchards and forests, trees and bushes waving in the wind, golden sun rays lighting up the leaves in brilliant colors. Facing the tragic and unexpected outcome of one of your story decisions.
Until Dawn
Making a seemingly trivial plot choice, only to realize later on that it led to a life or death decision. Trying to hold as still as possible while an enemy is looking for you only a few inches away. Death lurking around every corner, so you never know when it hits.
The Order 1886
Making your way through an incredibly gloomy and atmospheric alternate reality of Victorian London, execution of ‘cinematic gaming’ at its most convincing. Disposing of multiple enemies at once with the thermite rifle, that allows you to shoot a cloud of magnesium around them and setting fire to it.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
Crashing through 19th century London in a furious horse carriage chase, and ziplining straight to the top of Big Ben, looking over the misty streets. Knocking out four enemies at the same time in a brutal fist fight.
Yoshi’s Woolly World
Collecting five bundles of wool in a level to have a colorful new Yoshi knitted for you once you finished it. Grabbing a thread with your tongue and revealing a hidden passage by unraveling a knitted wall.
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
Tilting the stage around to reveal a hidden gem tucked away inside an underground passage. Figuring out the perfect route to get through the destination with all of the collectibles.
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush
Maneuvering Kirby across a clay-created Wispy Woods bossfight, smashing into the tree and chipping away his health bar by spinning around. Adjusting the course of a Kirby-rocket and steering it safely around the stage.
Splatoon
Sliding trough freshly sprayed paint, launching yourself in squid-form across a gap, and sticking to the layer of paint on the wall at the other side. Making your way up through the colorful paint to reach the top of the platform.
Super Mario Maker
Hearing the famous Mario theme play with each note made up from the word ‘block’ while you create a stage. The sound of the truck honking to deliver new building materials. Falling into a pit and hearing an endless radio drama of Mario landing on objects, knocking stuff over, collecting coins.
