The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Limited Edition

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD was released in 2013 for Wii U, ten years after the launch of the original on the Gamecube. Nintendo made two versions: the regular one and a Limited Edition that includes a Ganondorf figurine. The PAL and US versions of these versions are the same, except for the boxes (the US version had a different color and a window on the front), and the fact that the US version doesn’t come with a dome for the figurine. This one here is the PAL version.

First of all, the box looks very nice. It shows an artwork of Link, Zelda and Ganondorf during their final battle in the game. The sides are decorated with artworks of Link in stained glass, and the top has a Wii U logo that is made to look like a sea chart.

Inside this box are two items: the game and another, smaller box.

This cardboard box holds the figurine, together with some protective plastic and bubble wrap.

The figure is actually very nice. This is obviously the main selling point of this edition, and luckily it doesn’t disappoint. It resembles the character well, has a very decent size and a dynamic, believable pose. The dome makes it look classy and chic, even though it’s made of plastic. One complaint I have though is that the dome was kind of dirty when I took it out of the box. Not a huge deal, but I’ve heard more people complaining about this.

The game itself comes in the normal box (the only difference being that this one has a warning printed on it that tells you not to sell it separately, but luckily it’s not an eye sore). Like the regular PAL versions of the game, it has a reversible cover. The alternative art show the same art work that’s on the box, of the final battle.

Now, when giving my final verdict of this limited edition, there are a few things to consider. First, I think the presentation could have been a little better. While the outer case looks good, the one that holds Ganondorf is just your regular cardboard box. However, I do think the figure looks very nice displayed on a shelf.

Lastly, it seems that Nintendo deliberately kept supply low for this edition, because it didn’t take long at all for them to become hard to find. Many stores didn’t even receive them, or they received less than expected. So one thing I can say is that this one is actually pretty rare, and, like all Zelda games, will probably increase in value over the years.
