Collector's Editions

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Hardened Edition

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It quickly became the fastest selling game of all time (but has been beaten in this regard since). There were several editions available: the regular version on consoles and PC, and several more expensive collector’s editions on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Prestige Edition even came with a fully functional pair of night vision goggles, and a head sculpt to display them on.

The one shown here though is the Hardened Edition, a more modest version with some small extras.

First of all, there’s the steelbook. On the front is a grayscale picture of a soldier walking through the snow. Looks pretty nice.

On the inside of the case, an artwork of the destroyed White House can be seen. It’s always a nice extra to have an image on the inside, but it’s a shame they plastic isn’t really clear, which makes the image harder to see.

Also included is the digital version of Call of Duty, remastered in HD. This is a pretty neat extra, since you basically get an entire (albeit relatively old) game for free with it.

Lastly, there is a small artbook showing environments, weapons and characters from the game.

There’s nothing really surprising or special about its contents, but I guess it’s simply meant as a cheaper alternative to the Prestige Edition, so that’s okay. A decent collector’s edition.
