The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition

The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition is a promotional compilation disc, released in Europe in 2004 for the Gamecube. It contains several Legend of Zelda games, and a demo for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. On the disc were also two videos: a promotional video for The Wind Waker and a Legend of Zelda Retrospective video, that showed scenes from all the games between the first one and The Wind Waker.

This item has never been sold in stores, but could be required in several ways. In the US, you could get your hand on the disc by registering 5 or more games at Nintendo.com, buying a subscription to Nintendo Power or buying a Gamecube console (for a limited time). In Europe, it was bundled with the Gamecube Mario Kart Double Dash bundle, could be obtained by registering certain first party Gamecube games, and it was also made available at the Nintendo Catalogue from Club Nintendo.

The games come in a normal Gamecube case with the title ‘The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition’. On the front you can see the logo of the series, with a Triforce in the background.

The back of the case shows four screens and shorts descriptions of each of the games that are included: Legend of Zelda (1986), Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (1987), The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (2000). Other than that the cover has a simple dark gray gradient.

Having never been available for purchase, this item isn’t too easy to find, and thus collectors need to turn to second hand sections in game stores or auction sites to be able to find one. Because all these games have been made available on different services by now, it’s not an extremely valuable item, but it has the collector’s appeal of a special edition release, and this is of course a very popular franchise.
