Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Limited Edition
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Limited Edition
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Year: 2017
Region: PAL
Released in May of 2017, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is the final game in the series to appear on the 3DS. It also has the biggest limited edition yet, far surpassing the one of its predecessor Fire Emblem Fates, at least in size. This edition is similar to the one released in the US, only larger and more expensive due to the inclusion of two Amiibo figures.
So as stated above, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Limited Edition comes in a huge paper box, about 31 cm tall. Even this box is equipped with a hang tab, something Nintendo Europe seems to be insistent on no matter what.
Upon opening the box the first thing you’ll see is a small black case with the game’s logo on the lid in silver lettering.
Inside are three pins of the game’s main characters (Alm, Celica and Marth) in 8-bit style. This game is a remake of a Japan only NES game from 1992, Fire Emblem Gaiden, so that explains the retro style.
Onto the rest of the contents. First, the game itself.
The game comes with a reversible cover, and the alternative art is based on the Japanese box art of the original Famicom game. Pretty clever.
A soundtrack CD is also included, titled ‘Sounds of Echoes’. It comes in a paper box – arguably better than a jewel case as those crack real easily, although it looks a bit cheaper – and contains 30 tracks.
Then there are the two Amiibos, representing both protagonists, Alm and Celica. Both figures unlock a new dungeon when scanned.
Lastly, the Valentia Artbook. One of the reasons this edition is so large is because of this book, as it is A4 size.
Inside are artworks showing environments, characters, classes, weapons, enemies and more.
All in all a cool looking edition, though its size and price tag may be a bit too much for some. Fortunately it’s a lot easier to get a hold on than the previous Fire Emblem collector’s edition, at least in Europe. Still, it’s a popular item that was practically sold out by the time the game released, and it will probably get harder and harder to find for a decent price as time goes by.
